“Migrants use mobile phones and internet to inform themselves during their journey, this is why it is crucial that we make use of those same tools to convey quality and reliable information on safe migration”, said Chiara Tognetti, from the Migration Protection and Assistance department at IOM’s Vienna Regional Office.
She was commenting on a significant piece of work undertaken at a workshop in Budva, Montenegro last week, where IOM staff worked with local partners to design and launch MigApp Western Balkans.
It takes IOM’s new global app and localizes it, reaching out to people on the move and stranded migrants to inform them about the risks of being exploited, abused and trafficked. It sets out to provide them with contacts and locations of service providers, public institutions and authorities who can help them address the risks of being trafficked or exit the trafficking chain.
