Ms Szabados recalled the objectives of the Global Compact on Migration - underscoring the GCM is a State-led initiative,. She stressed that IOM will provide the necessary assistance to States in achieving those objectives. Ms Szabados also highlighted the important interconnectedness between the Global Compact for Migration and the Global Compact for Refugees.

The PA President, Mr George Tsereteli (Georgia), the PA Secretary General, Mr Roberto Montella (Italy), and PA Chair, Ms. Nahima Lanjri (Belgium), noted that migration is not a challenge but an opportunity. Committee members agreed that the current toxic narrative is not reflective of the true nature migration and that this Committee has an opportunity to propose concrete solutions to ensure that migration is well managed and that migrants’ rights are upheld.
