Albanian Diaspora Fundraising Training Moves Online

IOM Albania has moved its new diaspora fundraising programme online, as the Coronavirus pandemic makes face-to-face training impossible.

With a platform provided by the Albanian School of Public Administration (ASPA), IOM is working with public officials who work to engage the diaspora.

“Our programme mainly targets the Albanian diaspora in Italy, one of the counties worst affected by COVID-19”, says Manoela Lussi, IOM Albania Diaspora Programme Manager. We did not want to abandon the work we have started so we have adapted it to go online.”

The programme sets out to strengthen the capacity of public institutions to diversify their financial resources and to build programmes and projects that bring Albanian diaspora communities closer to their home country.

“This is the first time that ASPA utilizes a digital tool to deliver on-line trainings. We are proud to be transforming the digital environment into a new learning reality,” says Kleopatra Maliqi, General Director of ASPA.

Trainees are already benefitting from this new way of working. Dritan Delia from the National Diaspora Agency says “we are developing our research and marketing skills and this is giving us confidence in our actions and efforts.”

The IOM Albania Diaspora Programme is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Albania, the UN Migration Agency, with funding from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in coordination with the Albanian State Minister for Diaspora, Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Finance and Economy through Albanian Investment Development Agency (AIDA).
