To mark International Mother Language Day on February 21, IOM Kosovo organized an event to promote language and cultural diversity, while stressing the importance of multilingualism in society.

It consisted of language quiz and the award of certificates, followed by a panel attended by the Deputy British Ambassador, Language Commissioner, IOM Chief of Mission, Director of Centre for Social Initiatives and UN Development Coordinator.

In total 84 participants of language courses from 11 municipalities, divided into 28 teams, participated in the language quiz where they had the chance to test their knowledge through fun and play. The winning teams were awarded with prizes and certificates handed over by Deputy British Ambassador Jacob Webber. In addition, as an appreciation for their work, certificates were given to language teachers by Ms. Anna Rostocka, IOM Chief of Mission (pictured).

In 2018 IOM Kosovo created VocUp, a unique internet platform for learning Albanian and Serbian. This project was supported by British Embassy, Pristina the Office of Language Commissioner at Prime Minister’s Office, and it is implemented by IOM and the Centre for Social Initiatives. Initially, the platform consisted of a basic course of Albanian and Serbian to  A1 lavel, and was later upgraded with new levels of language courses, quizzes and vocabulary as an integral part of the linguistic platform.

Between October 2019 and now 29 language courses with over 800 participants were organized on the internet portal vocup.com in2020 in 11 targeted municipalities.
