IOM and CIS Pledge to Continue Close Cooperation
A mutual commitment to closer cooperation was made in St Petersburg this week at a meeting between IOM and the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Chief of Mission in the Russian Federation Abdusattor Esoev's discussions with the Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council, Dmitry Kobitsky were an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation agreement signed between the two organizations in 2012.
Mr Kobitsky noted that cooperation with IOM is of great importance for the Interparliamentary Assembly, since migration is a global phenomenon and migration processes significantly affect the life of every state in the CIS.
The meeting also covered possible areas for joint activities, including the process of preparing a model Migration Code for CIS Member States. Mr Esoev assured Mr Kobitsky that IOM is ready to provide expert support if needed.
