Regional Director Discusses Migration Matters with Armenian Deputy PM

Regional Director Argentina Szabadois held high-level talks with the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia during last week's visit to the country. Ms Szabados was accompanied during her meeting by United Nations Resident Coordinator Shombi Sharp, as well as the IOM Head of Office for Armenia, Ilona Ter-Minaysian, and Chief of Mission for Georgia, Sanja Celebic-Lukovac.

Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan highlighted the great importance he and the Government placed in cooperation with IOM, particularly in the development of migration policy and legislation, and in strengthening Armenia's capacity in the field of migration.

Ms Szabados presented IOM's activities globally and in Armenia, praising the effective cooperation with the Armenian authorities established for more than two decades. She placed special emphasis on voluntary return, and migration health.

The meeting gave all sides the possibility to discuss enhanced cooperation with Georgian counterparts and exchange of good practices in view of common trends related to return and reintegration from the EU as well as migratory flows in both countries.
